Todd Hayen

Bio

Todd Hayen began performing at age ten, as an actor in local community theatre musicals near Minneapolis. He fell in love with the stage and was acting professionally within a year. At age twelve he began studying the trumpet and joined the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies. Todd performed for two years in various musicals at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. The summer of 2005, he attended Interlochen Arts Camp as a junior high camper and played with the Intermediate Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble.

In high school, Todd played trumpet with the most advanced youth ensembles in Minnesota,including the University of Minnesota Honor Band, MN Youth Symphonies, St. Thomas Honor Band, MN Youth Jazz Bands, MN All-State Orchestra, and MN Institute for Talented Youth Jazz Ensemble. He also continued to act professionally at Youth Performance Company, Stages Theatre Co, Old Log Theater, Minneapolis Children's Theatre, Duck Soup Players, and the Guthrie Theatre. Todd co-wrote and directed an original musical for the 2007 MN Fringe Festival. His high school awards include the Eden Prairie High School Band Directors Award, MN Music Listening Contest State Finalist, MN All-Conference award for both Choir and Band, EPHS Best Supporting Actor, and EPHS Concerto Competition winner.

Todd relocated to Seattle in August 2008. He received a music scholarship to study trumpet performance at Cornish College of the Arts, where he is currently studying with Justin Emerich. The summer of 2009, Todd worked at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp as a counselor and brass performer. He has performed regularly with Philharmonia NW, The Esoterics, and the Seattle Youth Symphony. Todd has recently collaborated with conductor Tigran Arakelyan to form "Cadence Chamber Orchestra"- a new ensemble dedicated to performing free concerts at uncommon venues around Seattle. He'll be graduating from Cornish in 2011, and is looking into graduate programs in Music Education.
