Musician
My musical projects are eclectic and constantly changing. My main instrument is the trumpet, but I also love singing (tenor) and playing flute, piano and guitar. I enjoy composing and conducting as well. I find music education very interesting and I hope to major in Music Ed. in graduate school.
Trumpet
I've been playing trumpet since I was eleven. I love playing all types of music - classical (baroque, chamber, orchestral); jazz (big band, combo, dixieland); pop / commercial etc. I recently started playing piccolo trumpet, and have been particularly interested in contemporary chamber music for trumpet. I'm also currently playing trumpet with the Seattle-based chamber orchestra Philharmonia Northwest. To see my trumpet playing resume, click here.
Teaching Lessons
I offer private trumpet lessons to beginner and intermediate players with flexible options.
- One free, no-obligation trial lesson
- $15 per hour lesson
- Time and location flexible (I can travel to you)
- Group lesson with two or more trumpeters are an option.
- I supply all lesson materials at no extra charge (exercises, etudes, books etc.)
In my lessons, I focus on fundamentals of the embouchure, relaxed natural breathing, and tone development. I'm very fascinated by brass pedagogy and teaching methods - specifically those of Bill Adams, Max Schlossberg, and Gary Radke. I use a wide variety of method books and techniques in my teaching. If you or someone you know is interested in taking trumpet lessons, please contact me.
Composing / Arranging
I love musical experiments, and Cornish has inspired me to try classical composition for fun. I especially enjoy writing for unique groups of instruments. (I've been writing for the trumpet ensemble at my high school - 12 trumpets!) If you'd like some music written, arranged, or transcribed, feel free to contact me. I'd love to try it out!
